DEFINIT actively takes part in suppporting Indonesia social development through trainings, workshops, seminars, and dialogues. One of which is through organizing National Seminar on the Concept of Nationality on “Developing Social Solidarity Cadres that Represent Indonesian Characters” which was organized by DEFINIT in cooperation with Ministry of Social Affair of Republic of Indonesia, Alumni Career Support System Universitas Gadjah Mada (ACSS UGM), Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) of Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (Provinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta), Center for Policy and People Empowerment (CPPE), Lantana Camara, and WISH. The event was carried out at University Club, Gadjah Mada University, as one of the events in the commemoration of Hari Kesetiakawanan Sosial Nasional (HKSN) – National Social Solidarity Day – which for this year commemoration is centered in DIY Province.

The purposes of the National Seminar on the Concept of Nationality are as follow:

1.Developing social solidarity cadres that represent Indonesian characters and understand the concept of nationality insight and unity, as well as have high social concern to increase community’s welfare;
2.Developing cadres to help community in facing social, disaster, and society problems; and
3.Developing cadres that will act as future leaders in community empowerment through economy and welfare approaches to increase community’s standard of living, in particular poor community.

This National Seminar was attended by government officials, legislative representations (DPRD), social practitioners, students, Paskibraka (flag-ceremony team), young cadres in Indonesia, various youth organizations, the universities/scholars/academics, mass media, and public communities. Participants are expected to disseminate the information that they obtained from the seminar to related parties and become the driving of the social solidarity movement in their community.

The National Seminar started with welcoming speech from GKR Pembayun as the Head of Youth Organization of DIY Province. She expected that this event could serve as a stepping stone to a social solidarity movement which is contextual, based on Pancasila, and sustainable. The National Seminar was then officially opened by Rektor UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng. Present as the keynote speaker was Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X who underlined the important of social solidarity in developing a welfare country.

The seminar then presented two resource persons that have great concerns on developing Indonesian characters, those were Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp. A (K) (Professor of UGM) and Dr. (H.C.) Siswono Yudohusodo (Entrepreneur and Member of DPR). This session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Gunawan Sumodiningrat, M. Ec. Both experts gave input and insight on the national policies in social development which were expected to become inspiration to participants to deepen social solidarity that represent Indonesian characters. At the discussion session, the participants shared their perspectives with the resource persons and expressed their concept or ideas in developing social solidarity spirit that can support the Indonesian social development.
