Financial system stability is not only influenced by real sector and government sector but also influenced by households sector. The influence of households sector could be in the form of capital inflow from households to financial sector or the demand for lending from households. Households will allocate their excess of funds into various forms of asset accumulation, including savings in formal financial institutions (banking). When households facing financial difficulties, households will try to find another source of financing, such as loans to the banking sector.

At the moment, the surveillance for the financial and corporate sector has been intensified. Since households sector also plays a very important role in financial stability system, households sector surveillance also needs to be conducted on a regular basis. Household Balance Sheet Survey (SNRT) is one of the tools that are intended to monitor the households sector of the Indonesian economy.

Household’s Balance Sheet Survey has been annually implemented since 2007 and began to be standardized in 2009. Bank Indonesia has set SNRT 2009’s sample as the database for the future SNRT. The purpose of the database is to develop the survey into a panel longitudinal survey, where each respondent will be surveyed every year in order to have a more rigorous and consistent information on the household financial activities.

SNRT 2013, similar to SNRT 2010-2012, will be held in ten provinces; North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Bali. This survey will cover 4,114 households in those provinces.

In 2013, DEFINIT will once again play the role as the Consultant of this survey. This role are already trusted by Bank Indonesia since 2011. As the Consultant of the survey, DEFINIT will be responsible for designing the survey methodology, monitoring survey implementation, and evaluating the survey result.
